Jo Jorgensen, a Libertarian party member for more than two decades who was the party’s vice-presidential nominee in 1996 and who reportedly said she would vote for Cohen’s rival John Monds for vice-president, ran a more traditional campaign.

“If elected president,” Jorgensen said at the South Carolina Libertarian party convention in November: “I would turn America into one giant Switzerland, armed and neutral, but enough forces to protect and defend American soil.”

The Jorgensen-Cohen ticket comes after the Libertarian party won 3.3% of the vote in 2016, the party’s best ever performance.

Gary Johnson, a former Republican governor of New Mexico, who was also the Libertarian candidate in 2012, was the presidential candidate in 2016. His running mate was William Weld, a former Republican governor of Massachusetts who this year challenged Donald Trump for the Republican nomination.

Despite the promising electoral performance, Weld, in particular, was criticized by some party members as being “Republican lite”, which could have prompted the change of strategy this year.

While Cohen may have distanced himself from his promises of ponies, time travel and kings, however, some of his and Jorgensen’s choices as Libertarian candidates could still serve as a turn-off to voters...

Today Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa became the first Atlantic City casino to accept a legal sports wager under new sports betting regulations in New Jersey. The historic wager comes just three days after New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy signed a bill passed unanimously by the State Legislature, creating a regulated environment where licensed casinos may establish legal sports books.

The honor of placing the first sports bet at an Atlantic City Casino went to Hall-of-Fame basketball legend Julius Erving. The gifted star of the Philadelphia 76ers and a long-time Borgata guest, Dr. J was invited by the resort to place the historic bet.  The Philadelphia NBA legend maintained his allegiance to his team’s home city but crossed-over from basketball to football when making his first bet at Borgata.

“I bet on the Eagles to repeat,” said Mr. Erving, holding up his ticket after placing a $5 bet on the Philadelphia NFL team to win the pro football championship. At the time of the wager the Borgata betting line for the Eagles to repeat as champions was 8 to 1.

Alongside Dr. J at the next betting window, New Jersey Senate President Steve Sweeney, who was instrumental in passing the state’s sports wagering legislation, made a $200 bet on the Green Bay Packers to win the pro football championship.

While both men proudly displayed their first tickets for customers and media gathered for the occasion, Dr. J asked President Sweeney about his bet. Upon learning Sweeney made a competing bet on the Packers, Dr. J remarked, “Then you’re going down.”

New Jersey casinos Borgata Hotel, Ocean Resort and Monmouth Park collectively took home a whopping $3.5 million in gross revenue from June 14th-30th.

The fiscal triumph emerged after the Supreme Court recently ruled out a federal ban and put an end to the litigation on state-sponsored sport bets last month, meaning the three big fish casinos were able to curate just under $300,000 tax revenue for New Jersey in just two weeks.

In light of the news, CEO of William Hill US ‘Joe Asher’ (who manages the sports books at Monmouth Park and Ocean Resort), couldn’t deny how ‘excited’ he is for the football season to start and claims “We always knew there was a big appetite for legal sports betting during the years of litigation, and now it is being proven.”

According to the Division of Gaming Enforcement, Monmouth Park topped the results with a massive $2.3 million, whilst Borgata took $986,831 and the Ocean Resort made a total of $192,671.

The total revenue takes into account approximately $1 million of future bets which haven’t been paid out yet, including winning tickets redeemed before June 30th, as well as bets made in advance for the World Cup.

In comparison to the state of Delaware, who only took home $7 million in revenue within the first 20 days of legal sports betting, New Jersey were able to double their figures with two-thirds of all bets placed and completed as $10.1 million on Major League Baseball bets and $2.2 million on soccer alone.

With the football season fast approaching and online/mobile betting to be a non-issue very soon, the remainder of the year holds high hopes for the gambling movement of New Jersey, and expects some substantial figures as a result.
